Picture the sun low over the water, salt on your lips, a board strapped to the back and nowhere in particular to be. That is the world the Meyers Manx was born into, and without a doubt it remains one of the most iconic and influential recreational cars of the 1960s. The model was designed by the visionary American Bruce Meyers, a surfer, artist and engineer who wanted to create a car that fitted the Californian beach culture perfectly.
In 1964 the first Meyers Manx saw the light of day, a revolutionary dune buggy built on a shortened Volkswagen Beetle chassis with a lightweight fibreglass body.
The Meyers Manx grew into a global phenomenon at lightning speed. Thanks to its playful character, excellent off-road ability and minimalist design, the buggy became a symbol of freedom, adventure and lifestyle. Thousands of buggies were built during the 1960s and 1970s, but only a small proportion of those are original, certificated Meyers Manx examples. Today these cars are highly sought after by collectors and lovers of unique classics.
This particular example from December 1967 represents the pure essence of the model: light, agile, full of character and unrivalled fun to drive.
Condition, specification and experience
This Meyers Manx is in absolutely as-new condition and has been completely rebuilt with an eye for originality and detail. With just 1,043 km covered since the rebuild, the car presents itself as a rare opportunity for the enthusiast seeking a top-quality buggy.
The fresh yellow exterior colour underlines the cheerful, summery character of the Manx, while the brown leather interior lends it a warm, classic feel. The manual gearbox adds to the pure driving experience that makes this iconic buggy so beloved.
This example is fitted with a removable hardtop, which not only increases everyday usability but also gives it a distinctive look. In addition, the authentic Meyers Manx certificate is present, an important proof of originality and collector value.
This buggy is not only a head-turner but also a car that invites you to drive, to enjoy and to make memories: on sunny days, along the coast or simply on a lovely country lane.
Bruce Meyers passed away in 2021, aged 94. He lived to see his creation finally receive the recognition it deserved. To see electric versions announced. To see his signature on authentication certificates become more coveted than many an artist achieves in a lifetime.
This one is still here. With that signature. With that history. With that impossibly cheerful yellow colour.
